Jackalberry Tented Camp

Jackalberry Tented Camp, built inside the Nkasa Rupara National Park formerly known as Mamili National Park, enjoys its prime location which make a perfect base for Park experience and exploration. The Camp is located on the Linyanti river lagoons where a large population of the park’s wildlife roams freely and could be spotted from the Camp decks through the floodplains of Namibia and woodlands of Botswana just across the river.

The main building is build around a huge Jackalberry tree and has first and second floors that houses the reception area, dinning area, lounge and bar area. The second floor has spacious and comfortable lounge providing guests with an exceptional view of the surrounding while the ground floor hosts communal fire place for evening catch up.

Q Game Drives

Game Drives head out early morning at sunrise, and late afternoon just before sunset in search of the animal species which call this place home. Keen birdwatchers will also be treated to over 430 bird species recorded in this wetland area.

Q Boat Cruises

This is our highlight! Don’t miss the opportunity to have an exclusive cruise on the Linyanti river. This is one of the most unexplored areas of Southern Africa. Animal sighting differs from the season. Winter is the season when elephants migrate in great numbers into Namibia from Botswana.

Welcome to Jackalberry Tented Camp

Built close to the border between Namibia's Zambezi and Botswana, and inside Nkasa Rupara National Park (formerly known as Mamili National Park) you will find a unique Camp situated in a unique and exciting landscape bursting with wildlife.

Jackalberry Tented Camp is located on the Linyanti river lagoons where large populations of the park's wildlife roam freely. Many can be spotted from the decks of the multi-storey lodge built in and around the enormous Jackalberry tree. The decks offer 360° uninterrupted views sweeping across the flood plains of Namibia to the woodlands of Botswana just across the river.

Q Driving Directions

Jackalberry Tented Camp is sited inside the Nkasa Rupara National Park (Mamili NP) entrance, 13km south-east of the main entrance.

Important Information

A 4x4 vehicle is required to drive from Sangwali to Jackalberry Tented Camp. Secure parking and pick-up is available at Sangwali - if you do not have a 4x4.

Driving From Rundu

Take the B8 east from Rundu to Kongola.
At Kongola, turn right (south-east) on the newly tarred C49 road.
Drive for about 70km.

Look out for the signpost (south) to Jackalberry Tented Camp.
Take that turning and drive approximately 2 Km to Sangwali.

Wait here for your pick-up

Drive 24 Km south from Sangwali. All the bridges are safe to cross.
The Shisintze Ranger Station (MET) is on the Park boundary.
Pay your park fees and enter the park in the direction of the Camp.

Driving From Katima Mulilo

Take the B8 south for about 7km, then take the C49 left (south-east to Linyanti)
for about 110km (mainly tarred).

Look out for the signpost (south) to Jackalberry Tented Camp.
Take that turning and drive approximately 2 Km to Sangwali.

Travelling by Air
The nearest airport is Mpacha (Katima Mulilo) - 125km from Jackalberry Tented Camp.
There are scheduled flights to and from Windhoek 3 times per week.
An alternative is Kasane Airport (in Botswana) - 250km away.

Jackalberry Tented Camp Facilities

The main building, built into a massive Jackalberry tree, comprises a ground floor communal room, with 1st and 2nd floors above - all with amazing views across the landscape.

And when you tire of your binoculars, there are comfortable surroundings where you can relax inside the camp.

Despite its location, Jackalberry Tented Camp boasts many home comforts. The ground floor is a communal area, with a welcoming open fire around which guests will undoubtedly share their experiences during the evening.

The upper floors house Reception, Dining Area / Bar, and a spacious, comfortable Lounge which boasts exceptional views of the surrounding landscape.

The accommodation comprises four ground level custom-built luxury tents, of which one serves as a Honeymoon Suite. All are furnished to a high standard and even include in-room shower facilities.

For the more adventurous, nothing can compare with the excitement of tracking wildlife in its native habitat on foot, with a guide who can explain all you want to know about the animal life and its environment.

Boat Cruises
Relax and enjoy exploring the rivers and lagoons in the area at a slower pace (subject to season and availability).

Q Accommodation

Three Eco-friendly Safari Style Twin Rooms
Large customized tents (approximate area 32 square meters) comfortably furnished with twin beds, electric lights, and tea/coffee station. Spacious, in-room shower facilities beyond a partition screen.
Water is heated by solar panels which also generate electricity. Raised decking overlooks the lagoons for excellent viewing opportunities.

One Eco-friendly Safari Style Honeymoon Suite
Similar to the twin rooms, but furnished with a double bed.
