Day Excursions from Dornhügel . . .
  • Dornhügel Hostel, in Omulunga Township of Grootfontein, provides free accommodation for school-children from local farms. Started by Dornhügel’s owners, this project reveals the daily life of local people, even including solar-powered cooking!

  • Visit a traditional village in Bushmanland and experience the ancient traditions and crafts of the San Bushmen. Learn to create jewellery or how to handle a bow and arrow. A project managed by the local community to generate funds.

  • Hoba Meteorite: the world’s largest metallic meteorite fell to earth about 80,000 years ago. It weighs over 60 tons and has been declared a Namibian National Monument.

  • Lake Otjikoto: containing dumped German munitions. A small permanent natural lake best known for the munitions (and gold bullion?) dumped during World War I, to avoid their capture by the South African and British forces.

  • Grootfontein Museum: Fascinating stories and artefacts.
