Welcome to Dornhügel Guest Farm

Travel_Namibia_Welcome to Dornhügel Guest Farm

Few travellers in Namibia allow themselves time in their tight schedule to experience a taste of real Namibian lifestyle.

Situated in north-east Namibia, 40km east of Grootfontein, Dornhügel Guest Farm makes an ideal stopover between Etosha and Caprivi.  Rather than a brief overnight break from long distance driving, why not enjoy 2 or 3 day's rest and relaxation while gaining a valuable and informative insight into life on this traditional working Namibian farm, and in nearby settlements?

The Beyer family began farming at Dornhügel in 1904, initially growing cotton, sunflower, millet, blue buffalo grass and maize.  Now the farm exceeds 11,000 hectares, and supports over 1,000 head of breeding cattle including Brahman, Angus, Simmental and African N’Guni, alongside Damara sheep and Basotho horses.

An extraordinary diversity of wild animals, game, birds and members of the cat family freely roam the farm.  The Dornhügel Team welcomes guests to stay in its tasteful home, to relax and assimilate the atmosphere of this century old farm, and to gain an insight into its fascinating way of life.

During a trip around the farm which is dotted with Makalani palm trees, guests will see the farm animals and be amazed at the wealth and diversity of wild game freely roaming the land - giraffe, zebra, kudu, eland, impala, oryx, dik-dik, steenbok, duiker, hebra (zebra cross-bred with horse, called here the 'Lady in Black'), mischievous warthogs, even perhaps elusive leopard, lynx, cheetah or wild cat.

And don’t forget the birds!

Soothe the body, refresh the senses and soak up the atmosphere and experience of
'A Real Namibian Holiday'.
